In the interest of the education of costume technicians and the general public in what seems to be an important fact of their daily lives, we decided to form SARTORIAL PRESS Publications and to publish a series of books on Costume. We strongly believe that this information will be helpful in these days of education cutbacks and the increased interest in the subject of Costume for theatre, film and museum reproduction - as well as its impact on our daily lives.
SARTORIAL PRESS Publications was established in 1997 to publish and present a series of costume making related topics, primarily in print format.
Forty
years of research and practice have now been compiled
into the first book on the Art of the Tailor.
For centuries, the closely guarded secrets of the master
tailor have remained in the preserve of the praticing
tailor.
As
a special gift for those who have long awaited this
publication, a limited, hard-cover, numbered and autographed
edition is being offered. Only 1500 copies will be published
in this edition. Each copy will be numbered in the sequence
ordered, and autographed by Mr. Doyle. Retail price
for the soft cover edition only will be $76.00, to be
available March 30, 2005.
'WAISTED EFFORTS - An illustrated Guide to Corset Making', our first publication, was launched in January 1998, and has been well received in bookshops around the world.
Rapidly becoming a favorite among theatre and fashion designers, it presents a truly unique view of the historic corset from the 17th to the 20th century.
Corset manufacture and its application to the contemporary body is of particular importance since current fashions and stage costume design has incorporated this magical garment into the vernacular of the day.
When Shakespeare's Lady MacBeth spoke her famous line
................"Out! Out! Damned spot"
she was speaking of imagined bloodstains on her evil hands. In the following book, all manner of stains are discussed, with methods of removal, including those dreaded blood stains - the real ones, of course.
'LAUNDRY - The Whys and Hows of Cleaning Clothes' is the second publication in this series. It is the first volume to discuss the entire subject of laundry, providing valuable information to all facets of this daily process. Stain removal, soaps, detergents, dry-cleaning, cleaning of vintage clothes, specialty garments including cashmere sweaters - all of it is contained in this fascinating volume.
Coming in the next two years are the three most important volumes on the subject of -tailoring. 'The Art in Masculine Tailoring' - 'The Art in Feminine Tailoring' and last, but not least 'The Art in Military and Ceremonial Clothing'.
